Florida Driver's Licenses New Requirements

According to WPTV, "people seeking a new or renewed Florida driver license or identification card must now provide two forms of identification and proof of their Social Security number and residential address. Also, they can no longer use a mailing address or post office box. These changes may send residents scrambling for documents such as a birth certificate, recent utility bills, a passport and a Social Security card.

The documents are what's needed to comply with the federal Real ID Act, which is a part of a nationwide effort to improve the integrity and security of state-issued driver licenses and ID cards and reduce fraud, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The new requirements mean you can't use your old license or identification card to board commercial airline flights or enter federal facilities (although you can use a valid passport) when these requirements take effect. That date is Dec. 1, 2014, in Florida for people born after Dec. 1, 1964, and Dec. 1, 2017, for everyone else."
