Wrongful Death Suit Filed Over Tainted Cantaloupe

medical malpracticetruck accidentswrongful deathA wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the son of a 92-year-old Kansas man who died after consuming listeria-tainted cantaloupe, according to the son's attorneys.

The suit was filed on behalf of Paul F. Schwarz, the son, against Colorado-based Jensen Farms, alleging that contaminated cantaloupe caused the death of his father, Paul A. Schwarz.

Cantaloupe from Jensen Farms was linked to 146 cases of listeriosis, a bacterial infection that can be deadly in the very old, the very young, and people with weakened immune systems. Thirty deaths and one miscarriage have been blamed on the tainted cantaloupe.

Schwarz died on December 18, 2011, after being hospitalized for listeriosis for five weeks. Schwartz had consumed cantaloupe which was traced to Jensen Farms.
