10 Safest Cities for Mom-Drivers

An article by the Orlando Sentinel recently highlighted the article released by Motherproof.com that outlined the ten safest cities for drivers who are mothers. Motherproof.com also provided tips on how parents can increase the safety of car trips when they are transporting kids to and from various activities.

The site took a survey of mothers and found that 32% of moms admitted that their child's activity in the back seat had led to careless driving. Drifting between lanes, missing a turn or getting into an accident were all causes of shuttling others around. The site listed ideas such as bringing along MP3 players, books and educational hand-held games to keep children occupied so that you can focus on driving. If you are planning on going on a long trip, it might be smart to invest in a DVD player.

The survey also revealed that 54% of moms admitted to eating on the road, which leaves them driving with only one hand. Another dangerous habit that moms tend to participate in is making calls or texting while they are driving their kids around. This is illegal in some states and mothers should pull over if making or answering a phone call is absolutely necessary. Children remember habits and they are likely to follow your example when they get older, so be wise with how you drive.

Approximately 41% of moms don't know how to change a tire, and this can lead to being stuck in an unsafe place. In order to prepare for the occasion where you have a flat tire, keep simple tools in your car like a flashlight and even a few road flares. These items will help you feel more prepared and safe when you encounter a flat tire or roadside trouble. For more information, call a Ft. Lauderdale personal injury attorney at our firm.
