The Centers for Disease Control now blames 25 deaths and 123 illnesses on contaminated cantaloupes from a Colorado farm.

The cantaloupes, from Jensen Farms, were sold whole or pre-cut under the “Rocky Ford” label and contain the Listeria bacteria, which can be deadly to the very young, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. One pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage after eating pre-cut cantaloupe she purchased at a store in Atlanta .

The CDC instructs that any cantaloupe known to have originated from Jensen Farms should be discarded, even if some of it was already eaten without causing illness.

Cantaloupes that are known to have NOT come from Jensen Farms are safe to eat. Consumers who are uncertain about the origin of cantaloupes they purchased are encouraged to throw the fruit away.
