The family of a Florida A&M student who was killed after an alleged hazing incident intends to sue the university, according to a statement by the family’s attorney on Monday.

An attorney for Pamela Champion, the mother of 26-year-old Robert Champion, a FAMU marching band member who died after a November 18 hazing ritual on board the university band’s charter bus, is set to sue the Tallahassee, Florida, school.

Pamela Champion said she hopes the lawsuit will encourage other FAMU hazing victims to come forward in an effort to end hazing rituals at the university.

To date, police have not made any arrests in connection with Champion’s death.
